24 Things I Learned At 24
Still clueless when it comes to life - but I know a thing or two now, I guess.
Last year after my birthday I made a post listing 23 things lessons from the past year and I think I want to make this a tradition. Although… Let me take that back because my suspected / undiagnosed ADHD and routine have an intense love-hate relationship.
Enough yapping: here is what this past year has taught me and maybe you’ll relate or learn a few things. Far be it for me to play Ms knows-it-all though.
Here we go:
1) Social media is 100 times more fun when you limit your number of followers and only keep people whose vibe you actually like. You’ll post more often, have more fun, and people will engage with your content more.
2) “Out of sight, out of mind” doesn’t apply to long-distance friendships, it only reveals to you the people who weren’t meant to remain by your side. I still get just as excited as a year ago when my college mates and other long-distance friends text me. I hold these friendships so close to my heart because they feel effortless.
3) Being cheap is be expensive. Only certain items are worth it: cheap pots, expensive pans, cheap hair brush, expensive shampoo, cheap toaster, expensive coffee. I’ve been moving into a new appartment if you can’t tell.
4) Being tired all the time is not normal. I’m not crazy lazy - I was just iron deficient !!
5) Solo traveling is ridiculously exciting and I cannot wait to do it again. Highly, highly recommend.
6) You don’t need to travel halfway across the world for life to be exciting.
7) Country music actually rocks (I’ve been obsessed with Zach Bryan’s songs haha, they’re not too beer-truck-Yodelayheewho core, ya know).
8) Building resilience/endurance takes FOREVER but it’s always worth the pain. You won’t get some sort of instant-gratification, it’s a more durable and steady kind instead.
9) Doing fun things by yourself is SO much more fun than in crappy company. A 10/10 experience.
10) Starting to date someone new while being in a vulnerable state makes you reaaal blind to some red flags. Heal first.
11) Good things take time. I really only understood that sentence up until these past weeks. I waited 9 months to get a driving exam date, It took me 5 years to learn how to drive, I waited 4 months to know if I got into grad school, it took my university 3 months to provide me with the right info regarding my program. Most of the time, It felt like all I did this past year was wait. But it’s all irrelevant now! Isn’t it? All of these things have come to fruition and that’s what I’ll remember. Things do fall into place, it’s just painfully slow sometimes…
12) It’s possible to tip past the point of absolute frustration when writing cover letters. After a while writing them becomes okay (I said okay, not easy or enjoyable).
13) You can’t expect people to run away from their true nature.
14) Couches are SO expensive and they’re the piece of furniture that takes the longest to get shipped.
15) You need 3 hobbies: one that keeps you active, one that is creative, and one that educates you.
16) Aquarius is the best zodiac sign.
17) LinkedIn cis not always great for your mental health. Don’t believe a-ny-thing you see on there. Theodore isn’t “thrilled to start his new position at Abc Accounting” - he might have just needed the cash.
18) Watermelon cut up in cubes with minced fresh mint leaves on top is a delicious summer snack.
19) You can’t build friendships with self-absorbed people (says the girl with a blog loool). Just go the theater if you want to hear people cackle and prattle.
20) If you’re not a fan of how somebody treats their significant other, it’s unlikely that you’ll remain friends / grow close.
21) Jazz and salsa music lead to a free and guaranteed amount of dopamine release.
22) If you want to adopt a shelter dog you should pick the senior one. I can’t wait to do that one day…
23) We don’t go to the theater, movies, museums or shows enough. That little ball of excitement that warms up inside your chest when you hear a good performance or see a meaningful piece of art is priceless.
24) There is no “better time”. Waiting for things to settle down or for certain matters to get taken care of to go on with your life is simply counter productive. It’s our job to learn how to appreciate the unexpected glorious moments that life grants us with regardless of our environnemental conditions. There will always be nerve-racking shit to obsess over.
Damn, already ?
Do you have one ?
Hope you enjoyed.
Lots of love,
Flore Xx
